Books on Film, Book Publisher & More
When Gary J. Svehla was 13-years-old in 1963, an avid fan of Famous Monsters of Filmland, he decided to publish his own "fanzine," a carbon-copied mishmash where only 20 copies were circulated of issue one.
Today, that original fanzine (Gore Creatures) has evolved into Midnight Marquee and is still going strong.
Today, 56 years later, that original fanzine (Gore Creatures) has evolved into Midnight Marquee and is being published (although not as often, since we're old).
In 1995, Midnight Marquee became incorporated when it evolved into a small press publisher of books on films, focusing on (but not exclusive to) the horror film genre. Our books are quality printed and bound softbound books, selling at the affordable price of usually $20.00-$25.00 per book. Midnight Marquee Press features a stable of the best historians and critics writing on movies today.
Gary and his wife, Susan Svehla, who comprise Midnight Marquee Press, Inc, try to produce roughly seven books per year and one or two issues of Midnight Marquee plus one issue of Mad About Movies, but the best-laid plans...
Midnight Marquee encourages new writers to contribute to the magazines and to pitch their book ideas.
